Cigna CarePlan (Medicare-Medicaid Plan).

Cigna is a health services company based in Nashville, Tennessee. We help people live healthy, active lives. We do this through low-cost, easy-to-use health care solutions. Our team has served Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries in Texas since 2000. In 2012, Cigna and HealthSpring joined together. This combined Cigna’s global health services with HealthSpring’s Medicare and Medicaid experience.

The Texas Dual Eligibles Integrated Care Demonstration Project is a demonstration program jointly run by Texas and the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to provide better health care for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. Under this demonstration, the state and federal government want to test new ways to improve how dual beneficiaries receive Medicare and Medicaid health care services. Cigna brings over 10 years of experience working with the dual eligible population. Plans available through this demonstration are called Medicare-Medicaid Plans (MMPs).

Cigna CarePlan (Medicare-Medicaid Plan).

Cigna CarePlan makes it easier for people who receive both Medicare and STAR+PLUS to receive medical and community-based services through 1 health plan. This plan will make it easier to manage one’s own health care needs through service coordination. Under Cigna CarePlan, members will not lose any of their current Medicare or STAR+PLUS benefits, but will receive more benefits, including:

  • Transportation
  • 24-hour health information line
  • Over-the-counter monthly allowance, and
  • A personal service coordinator

The Texas Dual Eligible Integrated Care Demonstration Project aims to improve quality of care. This will happen through focusing on medical care, long term support services, and the overall experience. CMS and the State will monitor the quality of MMPs to ensure members are getting high quality care.
